Softball Recap: West Lincoln Rebels vs. West Caldwell Warriors

If West Lincoln was riding high fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Newton-Conover last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The West Lincoln Rebels fell just short of the West Caldwell Warriors by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Gabrielle Wright put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 10.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Wright was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one double. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Kaylin Pardo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-5 with one home run. Kaitlyn Carpenter also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Even though they lost, West Lincoln lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post two or more home runs.

West Lincoln dropped their record down to 5-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for West Caldwell, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

West Lincoln wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 18-7 victory against Patton on the 19th. As for West Caldwell, they will face off against Bandys at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Caldwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
