Softball Recap: Riley County Falls to Hiawatha in First Game of Season

Riley County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Hiawatha Red Hawks by a score of 10-9 on Thursday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 12 in a row.

Kendall Holt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mara Schardein, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Hiawatha now has a winning record of 3-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Red Hawks beat Riley County by a score of 7-5 later that day.
