Recap: Winside Wildcats vs. Walthill Blujays

The Winside Wildcats were the 1-0 winner over the Walthill Blujays when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Winside took a 55-38 bruising from Walthill on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Winside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while Walthill is ranked 78th).

Despite the defeat, Winside saw an underclassman step up: Gavin Schutt scored 12 points.

Walthill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ethan Parker, who scored 12 points. Adrian Phillips was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

Winside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Walthill, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Winside will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Stanton on February 6th. As for Walthill, they will head out on the road to take on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Laurel-Concord-Coleridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Thursday.
