Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Amya Goodsell and Jaylah King Lead Our Lady of Mount Carmel to Victory

After losing to Mercy the last time they met, Our Lady of Mount Carmel decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cougars snuck past the Mercy Magic with a 61-55 victory on Monday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Magic are ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Our Lady of Mount Carmel to victory were Jaylah King and Amya Goodsell. King posted 20 points, while Goodsell earned 14 points. Goodsell continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Miley Alguire, who had six points.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Mercy, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Our Lady of Mount Carmel will square off against Roland Park Country at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mercy, they will head out to square off against St. Frances Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
