The Columbus Academy Vikings will head out to take on the Whitehall-Yearling Rams at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Columbus Academy is headed into the match having just posted their biggest win since February 1, 2024 on Tuesday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 58-27 victory over Franklin Heights.
Kyndal Singleton and Lianna Lopez were among the main playmakers for Columbus Academy as the former almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards and the latter almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds. Singleton continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Owens, who posted 14 points and five boards.
Columbus Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Whitehall-Yearling had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Wednesday. They came out on top against Varsity Opponent by a score of 42-33. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by exactly nine points.
Columbus Academy better keep an eye on Kyeona Myers. She was instrumental in Whitehall-Yearling's win, putting up 22 points and three steals. Myers' evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. AJ Woods was another key player, scoring seven points and three steals.
Whitehall-Yearling's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Columbus Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Columbus Academy has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 33.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Whitehall-Yearling struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
