Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Little Cypress-Mauriceville

On Monday, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears beat the Onalaska Wildcats 67-56. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Bears' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 727th, while the Wildcats are ranked 323rd).

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Spencer Green, who posted 18 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Brayden Topkins, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Onalaska, they moved to 19-5 with that loss, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.

When Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Onalaska next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose.
