Baseball Recap: East Nicolaus Triumphs

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, East Nicolaus brought some dynamite into their most recent match. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Paradise Bobcats an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won nine in a row.

Brody Johnson and Braden Hardwick were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Johnson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hardwick pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Johnson went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Hardwick got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Hardwick is becoming a predictor of East Nicolaus' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Daven Earhart was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikey Robbins, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

East Nicolaus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

East Nicolaus now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Paradise, they dropped their record down to 7-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

East Nicolaus will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bobcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
