Softball Game Preview: Union Knights/Damsels vs. Sewickley Academy

The Union Knights/Damsels will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Sewickley Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

While Knights/Damsels fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. They blew past North East 18-0 back in March.

Meanwhile, on Friday Sewickley Academy's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against South Side. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for Sewickley Academy, who until this game were averaging 2.13 runs allowed.

Sanaa Grant (2026) was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Quincy Sirko (2025), who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Sewickley Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Everything went Union's way against Sewickley Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2019, as Union made off with a 19-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights/Damsels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
