Softball Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Finds Home Field Redemption Against Academy of Our Lady of Peace

There's no place like home for Mater Dei Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots on Saturday. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Pilots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Arri Romero made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Maya Matthies was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Charlize 'Chuck' Masingale was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Mater Dei Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Academy of Our Lady of Peace only posted a batting average of .240.

Mater Dei Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they dropped their record down to 3-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Mater Dei Catholic will square off against La Costa Canyon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, they will host Rancho Bernardo at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Rancho Bernardo has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
