Recap: Shelbyville Dragons vs. Cooper Bulldogs
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Shelbyville Dragons can now relate to. They took a serious blow against the Bulldogs on Friday, falling 69-28. While losing is never fun, Shelbyville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 637th, while Cooper is ranked 290th).
Despite the loss, Shelbyville still got an impressive performance from Dylan Parker, who picked up 125 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Canon Ingram was his usual excellent self, rushing for 153 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 93 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes for Cooper. The team also got some help courtesy of Adryean Mapps, who gained 154 total yards and two touchdowns.
Shelbyville has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Cooper, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Shelbyville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cooper will head out on the road to face off against Garrison at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Garrison is on a five-game streak of home wins, Cooper a 11-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
