It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Rockledge ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Astronaut War Eagles 2-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-5 back in March.

Haley Smith spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Rockledge secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Alexis Chetta, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

The win made it two in a row for Rockledge and bumps their season record up to 14-7. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 12-8 Space Coast (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.4% over those games). As for Astronaut, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-5.

Looking ahead, Rockledge will challenge Melbourne at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Astronaut, they will square off against Space Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vipers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the War Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
