Basketball Game Preview: Miller County Pirates vs. Quitman County Hornets

The Miller County Pirates will face off against the Quitman County Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Miller County is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Calhoun County on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Miller County was outmatched by Calhoun County and fell 67-31. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ashlynn Huntley, who posted six points. Hannah Cratic was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Quitman County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat. They took a blow against Pelham, falling 77-25.

Miller County has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Quitman County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-17.

Everything came up roses for Miller County against Quitman County in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 40-10 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Miller County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
