Softball Game Preview: Madisonville Mustangs vs. Hudson Hornets

The Madisonville Mustangs will square off against the Hudson Hornets at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hudson took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Madisonville, who comes in off a win.

Madisonville took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 12-9 victory over Palestine.

Ellie West was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayci Morriss, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Riley Farris was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

Madisonville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Hudson lost 14-1 to Bullard on Friday. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Madisonville pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Hudson, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11-1.

Madisonville might still be hurting after the 14-8 defeat they got from Hudson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Madisonville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
