Recap: Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks vs. Cairo-Durham Mustangs
The Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks waltzed into their contest Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They really took it to Cairo-Durham for the full four quarters, racking up a 84-39 victory at home. Coxsackie-Athens' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Coxsackie-Athens' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Reaghan Hellen led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hellen scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Baileigh Briski, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Coxsackie-Athens' win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Cairo-Durham, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coxsackie-Athens will face off against Catskill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Catskill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 462nd, while Coxsackie-Athens is ranked 61st). As for Cairo-Durham, they will head out on the road to face off against Gilboa-Conesville Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
