Softball Game Preview: Elkhart Elks vs. Thrall Tigers

The Elkhart Elks will head out to face off against the Thrall Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Monday, Elkhart came up short against Corrigan-Camden and fell 7-2. The Elks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elkhart saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maryiah Jogie, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Thrall had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 5-0 shutout.

The result came thanks to Miley Pokorny's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kenzie Engelke was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

Elkhart's loss dropped their record down to 20-7. As for Thrall, their win bumped their record up to 23-8.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elkhart hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Thrall struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Elkhart came up short against Thrall in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 7-2. Can the Elks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
