Basketball Recap: Torrey Pines Takes a Loss

Torrey Pines fought the good fight in their overtime game against Victory Christian Academy on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 77-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Torrey Pines still got an impressive performance from Tyler Humphrey, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, Humphrey is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. Another player making a difference was Tevaris Green, who posted 11 points and six rebounds.

Victory Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sammell 'DJ' Humphries, who shot 52% from the field to rack up 28 points along with six boards and three steals. Humphries is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Troy Tominna was another key player, putting up 21 points and six rebounds.

Torrey Pines' loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Victory Christian Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Torrey Pines will venture away from home to square off against Helix at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Victory Christian Academy, they will take on University City in a tournament on Wednesday.
