Basketball Recap: Newman Comes Up Short

Newman lost against Marathon back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Newman Fighting Cardinals took a blow against the Marathon Red Raiders, falling 60-29. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 359th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 121st).

Newman has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Marathon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-4.

Newman will head out on the road to take on Columbus Catholic at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Marathon, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Stanley-Boyd at 7:15 p.m.
