The West Washington Senators will head out on the road to take on the Bloomington South Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Washington has five straight victories, Bloomington South has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
West Washington let Henryville stack seven runs on them in the second inning on Monday but luckily West Washington prevailed anyway. The Senators skirted past the Hornets 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Senators have posted since May 6th.
The team relied heavily on Meredith Deaton, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Manship, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Washington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Bloomington South fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Columbus East on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Olympians by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by just one run.
Akasha Burton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sloane Barrett, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
West Washington pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bloomington South, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Washington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Bloomington South struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
