Softball Recap: Normal University Comes Up Short

The matchup between Normal University and Olympia on Monday hardly resembled the 3-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Pioneers came up short against the Spartans, falling 21-6. The Pioneers have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Emmerson Steward and Ava Plattner stepped up to the plate in a big way. Steward went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Plattner went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Plattner has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Avery Moody, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Normal University's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Olympia, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-7-1.

Coming up, Normal University will face off against Glenwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Olympia, they will take on Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
