Basketball Recap: Xavier Burkes Jr. Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Jeff Davis

On Friday, the Thomasville Bulldogs beat the Jeff Davis Yellowjackets 48-41.

Thomasville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Xavier Burkes Jr. out in front who posted nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Burkes Jr. is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Antoine Garland Jr. was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Thomasville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Several Yellowjackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Malachi Smith, who earned 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of J'Varis Bryant, who had eight points.

Thomasville's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Jeff Davis, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-8 record.

Thomasville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-55 victory against Berrien on the 1st. As for Jeff Davis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-62 defeat against Fitzgerald on the 1st.
