Basketball Recap: La Salle Takes a Loss

La Salle suffered their biggest defeat since December 20, 2024 on Wednesday. They were dealt a 67-36 loss at the hands of the Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-54 on January 6th.

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cane Ortiz, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 11 points. That's the most points Ortiz has posted since back in November of 2024. Cody Divens was another key player, putting up ten points.

Verbum Dei Jesuit got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Harper Whitman out in front who went 5 for 6 en route to 14 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Reese Whitman, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

La Salle's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-8.

La Salle didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-44 loss against Mary Star of the Sea on the 24th. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 85-42 win against St. Genevieve on the 25th.
