Softball Recap: Rye Takes a Loss

Rye extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They lost 12-0 to the Eastchester Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 last Tuesday.

As for Eastchester, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

For Eastchester's part, Sabrina Cosgrove was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Cosgrove has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Sophia Gutirrez and Taylor Naclerio did most of the damage at the plate: Gutirrez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Naclerio went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Naclerio's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gianna Peduto, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Rye and Eastchester will both be playing Pelham Memorial the next time they take the field. The Eagles will host the Pelicans at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Garnets will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
