Baseball Recap: Bastrop Drops Season-High Score on Cedar Creek

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bastrop). They were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over the Cedar Creek Eagles on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Bears have posted against the Eagles since April 1, 2022.

Val Regalado made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in hits (zero). He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. In other batting news, Tristan St. Clair was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Jackson Phillips was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Bastrop kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win (which was Bastrop's third in a row) raised their record to 7-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cedar Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 7-9.

Bastrop and Cedar Creek could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Bastrop (ranked 830th) will meet Hays (ranked 240th) at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Similarly, Cedar Creek will face off against Anderson at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th down 625 places (955 vs. 330).
