Softball Recap: Orem Drops Highest Score of Season Against Provo

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Orem). They put the hurt on the Provo Bulldogs with a sharp 23-0 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Kiley Hoshnic was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Kate Allred was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cheyanne Wells, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Orem hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.

Orem has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Provo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Orem will take on Timpanogos at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Timberwolves have averaged an impressive 11.1 runs per game this season. As for Provo, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 27-0 loss against Uintah on the 16th.
