Basketball Game Preview: Thornton Trojans vs. Peak to Peak Pumas

Two dominant forwards in Clayton Jones and Elijah Eschmeyer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Thornton Trojans will be playing at home against the Peak to Peak Pumas at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Thornton is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Mountain View just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 71-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountain Lions.

Despite the defeat, Thornton got top-tier performance from Jones, who shot 4-for-4 from long range and dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards. That was a full 37.3% of Thornton's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Danso, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Thornton was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only racked up eight assists.

Meanwhile, Peak to Peak put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Stargate School 85-62. The Pumas' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Peak to Peak pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Thornton, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5.

Thornton didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Peak to Peak when the teams last played back in March of 2021, but they still walked away with a 54-49 victory.
