Softball Recap: Sterling Comes Up Short

Sterling extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-11. They came up short against the Haddon Township Hawks, falling 9-1. The Silver Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hawks earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

As for Haddon Township, they moved to 6-13 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 25-4).

For Haddon Township's part, Annika Raeuber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits.

At the plate, Ariana Turkot was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Callahan, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Sterling and Haddon Township could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Silver Knights will take on Rancocas Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (179 vs. 35). Meanwhile, Haddon Township (ranked 226th) will meet Vineland (ranked 36th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
