McClatchy is a perfect 4-0 against Cordova since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The McClatchy Lions will square off against the Cordova Lancers at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
Cordova will be up against a hot McClatchy team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. McClatchy never let Bear Creek get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Wednesday. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Ari Silva made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elias Ortega, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Gabe Coronado also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
McClatchy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Cordova not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Galt. The Lancers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Gabriel Bargas was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Bro Ahlstrom was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
McClatchy pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cordova, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-3-1.
Everything went McClatchy's way against Cordova in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as McClatchy made off with a 14-0 win. Does McClatchy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cordova turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
