Recap: Lakeland Regional Lancers vs. Wayne Valley Indians
After flying high against the Park Ridge Owls last Monday, the Lakeland Regional Lancers came back down to earth. Lakeland Regional was outmatched by the Indians on the road and fell 73-31. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lakeland Regional has scored all season.
Lakeland Regional's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matt Vanderweele, who scored five points. Another player making a difference was Joe Zonis, who scored four points.
Lakeland Regional struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wayne Valley racked up 20 assists.
Luke Rubino was a one-man wrecking crew for Wayne Valley as he scored 16 points along with three steals. Rubino is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Apicella, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Lakeland Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Wayne Valley, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.
Lakeland Regional and the Highlanders will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. West Milford will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Wayne Valley will take on the Cutters at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fair Lawn is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
