Basketball Game Preview: Calhoun Yellow Jackets vs. Gilmer Bobcats

Two dominant guards in Jace Johns and Jd Taylor are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Having just played yesterday, the Calhoun Yellow Jackets will get right back to it and host the Gilmer Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Calhoun will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

While Calhoun didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 42-35 win over Northwest Whitfield on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Gilmer hadn't done well against LaFayette recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Gilmer rang in the new year with a 66-57 victory over LaFayette.

Calhoun better focus on containing Keegen Bryant and Taylor as the pair were huge in Gilmer's win. Bryant went 7 of 14 en route to 26 points along with five assists and four steals, while Taylor dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. Taylor has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Cooper Farmer was another key player, putting up three points and three steals.

Gilmer is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Calhoun, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
