Basketball Game Preview: Pueblo South Colts vs. Palmer Ridge Bears

The Pueblo South Colts will head out to face off against the Palmer Ridge Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pueblo South has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Pueblo South is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Littleton 80-47 on Monday. With that win, the Colts brought their scoring average up to 52.4 points per game.

Pueblo South's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sergio Salazar led the charge by putting up 15 points along with eight assists and eight boards. Those eight assists gave Salazar a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caeden Herrera, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Palmer Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-46 heartbreaker at the hands of Fruita Monument. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Wildcats are ranked 24th).

Pueblo South will have to contain Logan Boyer as he made an impact in Palmer Ridge's last game. He went 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaz Connors, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Palmer Ridge now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Pueblo South, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Pueblo South has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Palmer Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 20.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything came up roses for Pueblo South against Palmer Ridge in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, as the squad secured an 83-34 win. In that game, Pueblo South amassed a halftime lead of 45-15, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
