Baseball Game Preview: Design Tech Dragons vs. Pinewood Panthers

The Design Tech Dragons will square off against the Pinewood Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Design Tech's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Pinewood has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

If Design Tech beats Pinewood with 16 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Dragons beat North Valley Baptist on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 16-3. Considering the Dragons have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Reilly Sutton and Charles Poole made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sutton pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Poole tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Design Tech is undefeated when Sutton allows one or fewer hits, but 4-5-1 otherwise. At bat, Sutton went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Poole went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three runs gave Sutton a new career-high.

Design Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

Meanwhile, Pinewood scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Summit Shasta by a score of 9-8.

Pinewood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Design Tech, their win bumped their record up to 8-5-1.
