Basketball Game Preview: Sun Valley Spartans vs. Cuthbertson Cavaliers

Sun Valley is 1-9 against Cuthbertson since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sun Valley Spartans will host the Cuthbertson Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m.

Back in December of 2024, Sun Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-42 to Forest Hills. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 345th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 148th).

The losing side was boosted by Zoe Bradley, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Kaylen Henry, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Sun Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cuthbertson). They blew past Buford 56-31 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cavaliers considering their 20-point performance the contest before.

Sun Valley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6. As for Cuthbertson, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Sun Valley couldn't quite finish off Cuthbertson when the teams last played back in January of 2024 and fell 59-56. Can Sun Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
