Softball Recap: Sahuaro Comes Up Short

Sahuaro extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-15. They came up short against the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks, falling 23-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Nighthawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-6 on Tuesday.

As for Ironwood Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Ironwood Ridge's part, Hayden Bores made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Bores has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joliee Romero, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Derissa Price, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Sahuaro will host Mica Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Thunderbolts' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ironwood Ridge, they will venture away from home to challenge Walden Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
