The North Posey Vikings will square off against the Evansville North Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (North Posey has three straight victories, Evansville North has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
North Posey is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Forest Park with a sharp 21-6 win on Saturday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Alyssa Heath made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Heath was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Morgan Lavanchy was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Paige Vaughn, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
North Posey kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Evansville North lost 8-2 to Terre Haute North Vigo on Saturday.
Evansville North saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracelyn Ashley, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Evansville North's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for North Posey, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.
Evansville North's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Posey has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Evansville North, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given North Posey's sizable advantage in that area, the Huskies will need to find a way to close that gap.
North Posey was able to grind out a solid win over Evansville North in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
