Football Game Preview: Palm Beach Lakes Rams vs. Royal Palm Beach Wildcats

After each having a week off, the Palm Beach Lakes Rams and the Royal Palm Beach Wildcats will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Palm Beach Lakes will be strutting in after a win while Royal Palm Beach will be coming in after a loss.

Last Thursday, Palm Beach Lakes made easy work of Suncoast and carried off a 26-6 victory. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Palm Beach Lakes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julian Ayala (*) led the charge by throwing for 271 yards and two TDs. That's the most passing yards Ayala (*) has posted since back in August. Palm Beach Lakes' leading receiver Jaden Hutchins was Ayala (*)'s top target yet again, picking up 138 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Palm Beach Lakes didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Suncoast to a completion percentage of just 13%. The Rams weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 67.9%.

Meanwhile, Royal Palm Beach and Dr. Joaquin Garcia were almost perfectly matched up last Thursday, but Royal Palm Beach suffered a 27-26 defeat.

Palm Beach Lakes will need to focus on slowing down Max Griner, one of several Royal Palm Beach players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 226 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 38 yards. Griner's passing game has become a key predictor of Royal Palm Beach's success: the team is 5-2 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Another rusher making a difference was Tyree Pearson, who rushed for 136 yards and one score while picking up 7.6 yards per carry.

Royal Palm Beach has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Palm Beach Lakes, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Palm Beach Lakes came up short against Royal Palm Beach when the teams last played back in October of 2023, falling 27-20. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
