Volleyball Recap: Emery Comes Up Short

Emery came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the Contra Costa Christian Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

While Emery was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Contra Costa Christian's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 25-17, 25-19.

Sean Cheung was the offensive standout of the game as he had 12 digs and three aces. That's the most digs he has posted since back in February.

Emery's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Contra Costa Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.

Emery wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-2 defeat against Cornerstone Christian on the 27th. As for Contra Costa Christian, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against California School for the Deaf at 5:30 p.m. on the 8th.
