Lovington piles up the points against Ruidoso

Recap: Lovington Wildcats vs. Ruidoso Warriors

In what's become a running theme this season, the Lovington Wildcats gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They breezed by Ruidoso on the road to the tune of 62-18. Given Lovington's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Ruidoso is ranked 96th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lovington found their leader in underclassman Malaiya Castro, who scored 19 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castro has scored all season. Erlin Salcido was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Lovington has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Ruidoso, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

Lovington will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Carlsbad at 5:30 p.m. Ruidoso won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Artesia at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. Artesia is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
