Softball Recap: Montini Catholic Comes Up Short

Montini Catholic had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 13-12 to make it four. They fell 6-2 to the Loyola Academy Ramblers. That's two games in a row now that the Broncos have lost by exactly four runs.

As for Loyola Academy, with the victory, they broke their seven-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-16. The game was the first time they have beaten Montini Catholic on their field since April 14, 2022.

For Loyola Academy's part, Alexis Hirtzig spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. Hirtzig has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Chloe Takacs, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Montini Catholic will challenge rival Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Loyola Academy is set to square off against their familiar foe Fenwick at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
