Softball Game Preview: Southwest Trojans vs. Jasper Eagles

The Southwest Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Jasper Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Southwest managed to slip by Crane the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans came up short against the Pirates on Monday, falling 17-5.

Jacee Durossette was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Keates, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Jasper made easy work of Rich Hill on Wednesday and carried off a 13-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won eight in a row.

Chloe Storm spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Emersyn Bass was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Kiley Helms also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Jasper now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Southwest, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-5.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Southwest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Jasper struggles in that department as they've averaged .425. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Southwest suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Jasper in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
