Preview: Mays Raiders vs. Villa Rica Wildcats
Mays is 3-0 against Villa Rica since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mays Raiders will be playing at home against the Villa Rica Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Mays has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 979 points over their last 14 matches.
It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Mays ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with an 80-73 win over Lithia Springs. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Derron Lindsey ii was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with five assists and five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mays' points. Another player making a difference was Germani Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Villa Rica pushed their score all the way to 62 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-62 to Tri-Cities. While losing is never fun, Villa Rica can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Tri-Cities is ranked 68th).
Mays' win bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Villa Rica, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Mays against Villa Rica in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 82-46 victory. With Mays ahead 45-18 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
