Minneola suffers sixth straight loss on the road

Recap: Minneola Wildcats vs. Ashland Blue Jays

The Minneola Wildcats were the 58-55 winner over the Ashland Blue Jays when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. Minneola fell 49-39 to Ashland on Thursday.

When it comes to explaining why Minneola lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maiya Shelor. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shelor has scored all season. Maiya Granados was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Ashland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Biannca Ceniceros out in front who scored 20 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Ceniceros has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emilia Ceniceros, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.

Minneola dropped their record down to 4-9 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Ashland, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minneola will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Satanta on January 30th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Satanta is ranked 259th, while Minneola is ranked 253rd). As for Ashland, they will head out on the road to face off against Pawnee Heights at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
