Basketball Recap: Pamlico County Piles Up the Points Against Roxboro Community

With a playoff win on the line, Pamlico County rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Roxboro Community Bulldogs 71-44. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Pamlico County was led to victory by Sydney Whitley-Reese and Nya Clark. Whitley-Reese went 13-for-30 en route to 30 points in addition to eight steals and five boards, while Clark shot 60% from the field on her way to 30 points and eight steals. Clark's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Aniyah King also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Pamlico County was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roxboro Community only three assists.

Despite the defeat, Roxboro Community saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Katherine-Kaey 'Katie' Mann almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds. Mann has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 21 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Karrie Obie, who posted 12 points and eight boards.

Pamlico County is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points over those games. The loss snapped Roxboro Community's winning streak at 20 games and leaves them with a 20-1 record.

Coming up, Pamlico County will head out to take on Wake Prep Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wake Prep Academy will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something Pamlico County surely won't give up without a fight. Roxboro Community does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
