Softball Recap: Steilacoom Takes a Loss

Steilacoom had lost six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-12 to make it seven. They lost 9-3 to the Franklin Pierce Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 on April 2nd.

Steilacoom saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Harper Runn, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Franklin Pierce, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

On Franklin Pierce's side, Kiley Sledge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sledge has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, Savanna Fomai was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Laneigha Garcia, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one double.

Looking ahead, Steilacoom will challenge Eatonville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Sentinels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cruisers have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Franklin Pierce, they will face off against Fife at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season.
