Baseball Game Preview: Bonnabel Bruins vs. South Plaquemines Hurricanes

The Bonnabel Bruins will head out to face off against the South Plaquemines Hurricanes at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bonnabel has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bonnabel came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against L.W. Higgins, falling 18-8. The Bruins' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Plaquemines). They were the clear victors by a 21-11 margin over John Ehret on Wednesday. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Rod Parker made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because South Plaquemines is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise. Parker was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Parker is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, South Plaquemines got a massive performance out of Javonta Gomez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three runs gave Gomez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Collin Vong, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

South Plaquemines now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Bonnabel, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-11.
