Baseball Recap: Washington Gets the Win

Washington was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Ottawa Pirates. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won five in a row.

Cannon Foster looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Washington let Micah McCoy and Carter Prina run wild. McCoy scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Prina went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Lawrence, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Washington's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Ottawa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will square off against Pekin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Ottawa, they will face off against Kaneland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
