Maize entered their tilt with Maize South on Thursday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They had just enough and edged out the Mavericks 8-6. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Scotty Hadley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other pitching news, Maize got a great performance from Porter Newell as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.

Back at the plate, Drake Blasi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Malachi Leichner, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Maize's record now sits at 8-2. As for Maize South, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Maize will have a chance to go back-to-back against Maize South: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
