Football Recap: Andrew Avent Leads Rahway's Defense on Thursday

Rahway won the last time they faced Perth Amboy, and Andrew Avent did his part to make sure it happened again. The Indians claimed a resounding 48-8 win over the Panthers with plenty of help from Avent, who rushed for 175 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Rahway's defense and their six sacks. Avent was especially locked on to Perth Amboy's QB and sacked him three times. Avent's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards dating back to last season.

The victory made it two in a row for Rahway and bumps their season record up to 2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 15 points in those games. As for Perth Amboy, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Rahway and Perth Amboy will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Indians will face off against rival Somerville at 12:00 p.m. on the 20th. Meanwhile, Perth Amboy is set to challenge their familiar foe Plainfield at 6:00 p.m. on the 19th.
