Merrimack hasn't had much luck against Pinkerton recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Tomahawks will welcome the Astros at 4:00 a.m.
On Tuesday, Merrimack and Timberlane finished up on equal footing with a 4-4 tie.
Meanwhile, Pinkerton strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Timberlane with a sharp 8-1 victory. The Astros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Leo Boucher made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Cloffi, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Pinkerton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.
Pinkerton's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. With that tie, Merrimack's record moves to 1-5-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Merrimack has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pinkerton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Merrimack couldn't quite finish off Pinkerton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Tomahawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
