Basketball Game Preview: Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle vs. Bear River Bears

Juan Diego Catholic is a perfect 4-0 against Bear River since January of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Soaring Eagle will head out to challenge the Bears at 7:00 p.m. Juan Diego Catholic will be strutting in after a victory while Bear River will be coming in after a defeat.

Juan Diego Catholic will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Juab, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Soaring Eagle managed a 47-42 win over the Wasps last Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Soaring Eagle.

Niella Sebit and Ava Tita were among the main playmakers for Juan Diego Catholic as the former went 9-for-14 en route to 25 points and three steals and the latter dropped a double-double with 13 points and 18 boards. The dominant performance also gave Tita a new career-high in blocks (four). Olivia Fry was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Bear River fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Box Elder on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 50-46 to the Bees. While the Bears didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bees 16-7 in the first quarter.

Juan Diego Catholic will need to focus on slowing down Samantha Theurer, one of several Bear River players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 17 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Driggs, who scored six points in addition to 13 rebounds and four steals.

Bear River now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Juan Diego Catholic beat Bear River 45-34 in their previous meeting back in January of 2017. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Soaring Eagle since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
