Softball Game Preview: Pentwater Falcons vs. Marion Eagles

Pentwater hasn't had much luck against Marion recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Falcons will face off against the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. Pentwater's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Marion's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Pentwater nor Mason County Eastern made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Falcons fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 7-6. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Aubrie Adams was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Adams was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Emma Werkema-Grondsma was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Lauren Davis, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

McBain hit Marion with a seven-run first inning last Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 11-1 to the Ramblers. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Ramblers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Pentwater's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Marion, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Pentwater suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Marion in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
